HOUSTON – The talk this holiday week has been what’s the timing of the cold front on Christmas Eve and whether it will ruin Christmas Day plans.

The answer is most assuredly, NO!
Storm Timing:
The good news, as I stated above, most of the noisy end of this front will be moving through overnight when, aside from Santa and the reindeer, most of us will be asleep.

First, let’s talk about what to expect through most of Christmas Eve.
Tuesday Morning:
The theme ahead of the front’s arrival is warm, cloudy, and breezy. I wouldn’t be shocked to see some patchy dense fog either Tuesday morning.

However, rain chances will be on the light side with some occasional showers drifting in from the coast.
Tuesday Afternoon/Evening:
A few streamer showers but the front will start to move in by dinner time across our northern counties.

It appears that most of the action will fall along the leading edge of the front with a line of showers/thunderstorms.
Overnight into Christmas:
This is when most of the area will see the action. Expect to hear noisy storms, quickly moving from northwest to southeast as the front passes overhead.
There is a small chance to see some strong wind gusts and even a little hail as the storms pass.
Christmas Morning:
The line of storms should be moving off the coast by 5-6am and while some roads/grass will be wet, the rain chances will go down to 20% or less.
Rest of Christmas Day:
We should be just fine for the remainder of Christmas/Hanukkah, warm in the mid 70s, mix of clouds and sun and aside from some leftover puddles, rain-free!
