Wednesday’s forecast:
HOUSTON – Wednesday will start with temperatures in the mid-30s. Temperatures will struggle to warm up with increasing cloud cover and afternoon highs only reaching the mid-to-upper 40s.
Thursday’s Messy Forecast:
Our far northern counties may see a few flurries and even some sleet/wintry mix for late Thursday afternoon/evening. Instead of snow on Thursday and Friday, expect cold rain and a possible flood threat as a coastal low spin along the Gulf Coast.
Another shot of cold air is expected to plunge into the state late Wednesday, while a Pacific low-pressure system will plug a ton of warmer moisture meeting up with that cold air. Here’s where the wintry problems begin:
The combination of warmer air from the Gulf hitting the very cold air around Dallas will lead to every form of wintry precipitation starting early Thursday with freezing rain on the roads and sleet, before changing over to snow by sunrise. Conditions will continue to deteriorate on the roads heading into Dallas through the day.
The big question is where the freezing line will set up. Right now, we have it well to our north. This means we will only see cold rainfall. If the freezing line drops south, we could see a wintry mix (freezing rain/ice) as far south as Madisonville. We’re not anticipating that we’ll see some accumulating wintry precip, however, conditions could become a little slippery late Thursday evening.
There is a risk for heavy rainfall on Thursday that could lead to street flooding. The risk is highest for those south of I-10. This means you will need to plan for extra time on the roads on Thursday. We’ll be monitoring the threat for a few inches of rain
Some lingering showers are possible into Friday morning, but then we will dry out for the weekend!
10-day Forecast:
After our messy Thursday and Friday morning conditions will improve! Saturday and Sunday will see a gentle warm up with highs reaching the 60s Sunday!
