HOUSTON – As the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo winds down, severe weather ramps up late Sunday evening.
A weak cold front is expected to arrive by mid Monday morning. The cooler, dense air pushes under the warmer, lighter air and forces warm air to rise rapidly - providing just enough lift for strong storms to form out ahead of the front.
The main threats we will be watching for are large hail and damaging winds.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect until 1 a.m. Monday for Burleson County, Brazos County, Madison County, Houston County, Trinity County, Walker County, San Jacinto County, Grimes County, and Washington County.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for the northern portions of Brazos County and the western half of Madison County until 11:30 p.m.
These storms are capable of producing golf ball sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

After the storms have passed, temperatures will still be mild waking up Monday morning.

Here is what we are tracking for Sunday overnight:
From 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday, a line of storms forms ahead of the cold front and moves south. This is a slow-moving system and can potentially wake up our friends in our northernmost counties in the overnight hours.
Here’s the timeline:

In the middle of the night, our storms lose their steam as the strongest storms are off to our east in West/Central Louisiana.

10-day forecast:
Notice that our temperatures won’t be affected by this system. We’ll still be above average in the extended forecast. Our next weathermaker brings another chance of rain as we close out the week - this includes the Houston Astros home opener day on Thursday.
