HOUSTON – Heads up, Houston! It’s time to prepare for some soaring temperatures. According to KPRC’s meteorologist, Justin Stapleton, we could be looking at highs reaching near 90 degrees today, making it one of the warmest days we’ve seen so far this early spring.
Be ready for the heat today
Today’s weather is set to be a warm one, with temperatures climbing to a high of 90 degrees in the afternoon.
While starting off with some patchy fog this morning, expect the sun to break through, raising temperatures significantly. If you’re heading outdoors, make sure to stay cool and hydrated.
High pressure keeping storms at bay—for now
Our friendly meteorologist points out that a large area of high pressure is currently parked over the western U.S., nudging the jet stream up into Canada and keeping most storm systems away from us. However, this weather pattern might change soon, so stay tuned for potential updates.
Possible heavy rain and flash flooding later this week
Looking ahead, there’s a developing area of low pressure off the coast of Baja, California, which could bring rain our way. Though isolated thunderstorms might pop up by Wednesday evening, the main concern is for heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.
There’s a slight risk for flash flooding, especially from Houston to Matagorda Bay. Folks should remain alert and prepared, particularly those in flood-prone areas.
Expect cooler temperatures over the weekend, with the mercury dropping to the mid-seventies as the weather clears up by Sunday.
