Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms swept through the Greater Houston region beginning at 3 a.m. Saturday, knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers and forcing utility crews to work through the Memorial Day weekend.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, approximately 4,500 CenterPoint customers remained without power. The company said crews had restored service to roughly 168,000 customers since the storms began, and they planned to continue working overnight.

CenterPoint says lightning strikes were a factor in the widespread outages.

Entergy had about 2,500 customers without power at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

And the rough weather isn’t done yet. Meteorologists at KPRC 2 are tracking the storms throughout Memorial Day weekend, and Houston is under a flood watch through Memorial Day Monday.
