HOUSTON – A concern about glass that can break off a bottle prompted a voluntary recall Saturday of several flavors of Sierra Nevada beer.
According to the North Carolina-based craft brewery, a packaging flaw could cause some bottles to lose carbonation and a small piece of glass to break off and fall into the bottle.
The company said it believes about 1 in every 10,000 bottles are affected by the recall, but no reports of injuries resulting from the packaging problem have been reported.
"Sierra Nevada has set the standard for quality in the craft brewing industry since 1980 and we have decided to take this precaution to ensure the safety of our consumers," the company said in a statement on its website.
The flavors being recalled include: Pale Ale, Torpedo Extra IPA, Tropical Torpedo, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, Beer Camp Golden IPA, Otra Vez, Nooner and Hop Hunter IPA.
Most of the recalled bottles were produced between Dec. 5, 2016, and Jan. 13. The Pale Ale recall affects bottles produced between Dec. 5, 2016 and Jan. 8.
