Yes, it was that long ago. On this date Houston saw a total solar eclipse. College Station and The Woodlands were along the center line. This eclipse started in the state of Texas before going over Cuba and the Dominican Republic.

Getting a total eclipse is rare. We have to go back to May 28, 1900 for the last time the state of Texas saw a total solar eclipse. But this eclipse only went over South Texas. More of the state saw a total solar eclipse July 29, 1878.
April 8th the Great Texas eclipse!

Looking to the future:
I don’t think we are going to be alive for the next total solar eclipse in Houston. It is 176 years away on April 14, 2200!
The next Texas total solar eclipse:
We don’t have to wait as long for the next Texas eclipse. But not much of the state is in totality. August 12, 2045 is the next Great American Eclipse - 21 years away! Who lives in this path?
I think I’ve made my point how rare it is to get a total solar eclipse where you live. Every 50 years, only 5% of the world gets a total solar eclipse. On average where you live will get a total solar eclipse once every 375 years!
