HOUSTON – A man died Friday after fleeing the scene of a shooting in a pickup and crashing into parked cars at an apartment complex in north Harris County, according to deputies.
The shooting was reported at 10:39 a.m. in the parking lot of the apartment complex near the intersection of Ella Boulevard and Greenwell Drive.

According to Harris County deputies, Precinct 4 deputy constables received reports of a shooting in progress. They arrived to find a man’s body in a white pickup that had been damaged in a crash with three other vehicles.
Investigators said that it appears the man was wounded during the shooting, jumped into the pickup and fled the scene. The man lost consciousness and the pickup crashed into vehicle parked in the lot, investigators said.
The gunman was described as black and in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing a white shirt and dark blue pants. Deputies said that man was last seen running with a long gun. The active search for the gunman was called off around 1 p.m.
Law enforcement officers had divided into teams paying particular attention to a nearby wooded area of Greens Bayou.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Investigators said they are trying to determine a motive.
Family members of the victim arrived at the scene. A distraught woman, described as the victim's mother, tried to make her way to the truck where the victim was inside. She was ushered into the clubhouse by a sheriff's deputy.
