KPRC has aired the event for more than 40 years.

KPRC Local 2 anchors Bill Balleza, Dominique Sachse and meteorologist Khambrel Marshall are hosting the Houston coverage.

The 2011 MDA Labor Day Telethon will air in prime-time, marking a switch from a 21 ½-hour show to a six-hour show. The MDA is promising a short, snappy and sensational event.

The star-studded variety show simultaneously entertains, informs and raises funds for the service and research programs of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

A variety of celebrity co-hosts will share the national stage including Nigel Lythgoe, Nancy O'Dell, Alison Sweeney and Jann Carl.

Approximately 12 performers, as well as families served by MDA, will also be featured. The telethon is being broadcast live from the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This year's event features an A-list of talent, including Celine Dion, Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, Jordin Sparks, Martina McBride and Boyz II Men.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency working to eliminate the more than 40 neuromuscular illnesses through programs of research and medical services.

More than $3,037,107 was donated from Houston and surrounding areas in 2010.
