HOUSTON – A composite sketch was released and a reward was offered to help find the gunman who killed a 19-year-old man outside his north Harris County apartment.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said Afernee Williams was shot six times outside the Chisholm Trail apartments, 18204 Chisholm Trail, at 9 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Investigators said they believe he was the victim of a random attack.
"He was on the patio, walked out of the house and made a statement to another male and shots occurred," said Sgt. Ronald Hunter with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Williams died a short time later at a hospital.
The gunman escaped.
Williams was the youngest of four children. He is deeply missed by his family.
"He didn't even have time to make his own family. He was my mom's youngest boy, and I don't know how it's going to affect her," said April St. Jules, the victim's sister.
"We take every loss of life seriously," said Hunter.
Deputies said they believe the shooter lives in the area. Witnesses said he was wearing a black cap, white shirt, shorts and sandals. He is believed to be in his 30s.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
