HOUSTON – A 19-year-old man was shot Monday while he waited for his brother to return home to his southwest Houston apartment.
Houston police said Henry Hernandez was standing in the courtyard of the Waterfall Park apartment complex in the 7500 block of Corporate Drive near Sharpcrest when he was shot in the back of the head at around 12:20 a.m. He was on the phone with his brother around the time when he was shot.
Several witnesses in the area heard the shot and went to see what happened.
"The woman opened her front door and found the complainant laying on the ground," said Kevin Carr with the Houston Police Department.
Paramedics rushed Hernandez to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators said they don't yet have a motive. The shooter escaped.
Police said the crime appears to be a random shooting.
