HOUSTON – Two men are on the run after killing a north Houston man with assault riffles.
The shooting happened in the 2400 block of Turner Drive and Edgeworth Street at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police said two men ambushed Darwin Roberson while he was in his front yard.
Police said Roberson, 51, tried running to the back of the house to escape.
"They were armed with large high caliber riffles. They opened fire, striking him a number of times, killing him instantly," said HPD Sergeant Mike Miller.
Police said the shooters fired at least 13 rounds.
Witnesses told police the two shooters and Roberson had previously argued about money.
Family members said they were at home when Roberson was killed. They came outside after hearing gunshots and found him lying in the driveway.
"He was a good guy. He didn't bother no one and for someone to take his life, we don't understand it. We just want answers," said Alice Williams, Roberson's niece.
"We were home when this took place. And you came out and what did you see? My brother dead. Laying on the ground," said Swan Lexington, Roberson's sister.
Homicide detectives said the shooters were seen taking off in a getaway car. A accurate description of the vehicle could not be provided.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
