HOUSTON – Lightning struck an east Houston chemical plant on Tuesday.
The strike happened at the TPC Group in the 8600 block of Park Place about 3:30 p.m.

Plant officials said the strike cause the boiler to shut down, which resulted in a loss of steam feeding into the plant. That caused the plant to flare.
The plant is monitoring the situation and has not detected a chemical release into the air.
No injuries have been reported.
