HOUSTON – A man was shot and killed in his west Houston driveway Wednesday.
Houston police were called to the home in the 12400 block of Shadowmist shortly about 5:30 a.m.
Investigators said 37-year-old Tai Nguyen was getting ready to go to work when he was approached by a gunman.
"It looks like he was trying to get inside his car when he was accosted," Sgt. Joel Burton said. "He was trying to flee as he was shot."
Nguyen was shot several times, officials said.
Police said witnesses told them that they heard 13 gunshots.
Detectives said relatives heard the shooting.
"They heard gunshots and found him on the driveway dead," Burton said.
The gunman fled the scene. A description of him has not been released.
Nguyen leaves behind two children, ages 10 and 2.
Neighbors said crime has been increasing in the area.
"This is not the first time I've seen crime scenes," neighbor Kathy Hash said. "Robberies, break-ins at 10 in the morning, in the evening. It's dangerous."
