HOUSTON – The majority of men and women across the United States agree sexting, tweets, and Facebook messages can constitute cheating, even if there is no physical contact.
A YouGov poll of 1,000 adults found 85 percent of women and 74 percent of men deemed sexy digital encounters cheating when carried out by a person in a committed relationship.
When asked if texting was cheating one woman told Local 2, "Well if it's not with your wife, yeah!"
In fact, 65 percent said they would be upset if their spouse started connecting with an old flame online. They felt that way even if the communication was harmless.
A man told Local 2 "I would be upset. It's her ex. Maybe the spark would get back up or something."
But when asked what's a bigger betrayal, a kiss or an intimate text the lines seemed to blur.
Sixty percent of men surveyed said it was fine if their other half locked lips with another person, versus 34 percent of women.
And our viewers felt the same way. One woman told Local 2 she couldn't decide. "I think, Oh God. Neither!" she said.
