CLEAR LAKE, Texas – Friends of Myrta Fariza, who was killed when a train derailed in Spain, will be holding fundraisers in Clear Lake and Pearland to help the family with growing costs.
Fariza's husband, Bobby Myrta, who was also a passenger on the train when it derailed on July 24, and their three daughters remain in Spain trying to work out details while also dealing with their grief.
The first fundraiser will be held at Gina's Italian Kitchen, located at 1105 Clear Lake City Boulevard in Clear Lake, next Thursday, Aug. 8 and Friday, Aug. 9.
The restaurant will donate 10 percent of their profits to the Fariza family to help deal with mounting costs.
Friends of the family said the restaurant's general manager reached out to the family after Myrta Fariza's son-in-law ate in their restaurant and the train tragedy came up in conversation.
The restaurant quickly comped his meal and offered to hold fundraisers and provide food for the service.
A BBQ fundraiser will also be held on Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Scooters, located at 134 N. Main in Pearland.
Plates of BBQ will be sold for $8 dollars and all money raised will benefit the Fariza family.
Bobby and Myrta Fariza were on their way to the festival in Santiago de Compostella, Spain when the train derailed killing 79 people including Myrta Fariza.
The couple was traveling on a second honeymoon after celebrating one of their daughter's wedding in Rome.
Myrta Fariza served her community as a juvenile probation officer. She leaves behind an army of friends and family who are now trying to help her husband and daughters deal with the burden of growing costs.
