HOUSTON – Friends and former patients in Houston are showing their support for Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician who was convicted of manslaughter in the death of pop icon Michael Jackson.
Murray was released early because of jail overcrowding after serving two years of a four year sentence.
For years, Murray operated a charity clinic in Acres Homes located in northwest Houston.
He is appealing his conviction and his attorneys have filed a petition in Travis County to stop the state medical board from revoking his license to practice medicine in Texas.
"To be honest with you, I'm glad he's out. It's a relief," said Ruby Mosley.
Mosley is a former patient, who also testified as a character witness in Murray's criminal trial.
Mosley credits Murray with saving her life and the lives of many of the impoverished and elderly patients he treated at his Houston clinic.
"It wasn't the money that he was after because he never got paid a dime. It was only to help save a soul and Houston will welcome him with open arms," said Mosley.
