HOUSTON – A man was killed Tuesday morning after a shooting in northwest Houston.
Investigators said a person found the man lying on the ground at an apartment complex around 2 a.m.
Family members and others at the scene originally identified the victim as Anthony Berry, 27, but the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later identified the victim as 23-year-old Jovan Green.
Police said Green was likely shot in the street and then behind the apartments on Antoine Drive near Tidwell Road.
Officers believe Green was trying to escape the gunfire. Residents found the man and tried to perform CPR to revive him.
"He was shot in the back somewhere because when we turned him over he wasn't bleeding in the front, he was just bleeding in the back, and his legs were bleeding, like they shot him in his legs somewhere," said Sheila Polk who performed CPR on the victim. "I was asking him 'can you hear me? Are you all right? Can you hear me? And he was shaking his head yes."
Paramedics rushed Green to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.
Neighbors saw a yellow car driving away after they heard the gunshots, but investigators are unsure if the vehicle is connected to the shooting.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
