HOUSTON – Local 2 has learned an Houston-area auction house is once again preparing to sell more items from the estate of former hand surgeon, Dr. Michael Brown.
Brown died November 8, 2013 following a suicide attempt days earlier. Since then, his estate has been the subject of a contentious, and at times, bizarre bankruptcy proceeding.
A Federal judge has released, in bits and pieces, items for auction to satisfy myriad debt collectors.
On Sunday, two ivory tusks, tentatively valued at $5,000 a piece will be sold to the highest bidder.
"It is legal to sell them as long as they're not taken out of the country. We have a letter from a judge that allows us to sell them," auctioneer Billy Webster said.
Webster's Auction House has sold the lion's share of Brown's items.
On Nov. 9, 2-13 one of the most expensive items yet will be auctioned, Brown's 2008 low-mile Lamborghini Murcielago.
Webster expects the car will fetch north of $150,000.
On the same day, the Brown family's 2007 Mercedes S550 will be sold. Originally, a six digit luxury car. It is expected to fetch a fraction of its original sales price, perhaps as little as $25,000.
