COLUMBUS, Texas – There is outrage from parents at a local high school who are just now learning that an athletic trainer and a softball coach are both under investigation for allegedly having inappropriate communications with students.
Colorado County Sheriff's investigators say 24-year-old Nicholas Whittemore was a Columbus High School athletic trainer who sent naked pictures of himself to a 17-year-old student via text message.
Deputies were called after the girl's mother contacted them. We are told she found the nude pictures on her daughter's cell phone.
"You send your kid to school and you want them to be protected there," said sheriff's investigator Shawn Zak.
No one from the school district would talk on camera, but the district released a statement which read in part, "Nicholas Whittemore was arrested based on allegations of engaging in inappropriate conduct that involved a student. We investigated this situation and have cooperated with law enforcement officials. Mr. Whittemore is no longer employed by Columbus ISD."
This isn't the only arrest Columbus high school has dealt with recently.
Police say Jake Koehl was a softball coach at the school. He was arrested recently for sending inappropriate text messages to a student.
Parents tell Local 2 they didn't even know about this arrest until we told them and feel the district isn't keeping them informed.
