GALENA PARK – The Washburn Tunnel is closed until Nov. 2 as crews repair the roads and traffic circles.
Construction on the busy tunnel near Galena Park began Thursday at midnight. Commuters who need to cross the Ship Channel can take the 610 East Loop Freeway bridge, the East Sam Houston Parkway North toll bridge and the Fred Hartman Bridge.

Traffic is expected to be heavy in the area during peak hours until crews finish work on the tunnel.
