HOUSTON – Houston police released a sketch of a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man who saved the lives of his wife and children by telling them to run before he was shot and killed.
According to police, at around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 1, the victim was walking with his wife and children back to their apartment at 16250 Imperial Valley Drive. As they walked through the apartment complex, police said they were confronted by a black man who displayed a gun. The victim, 21-year-old Edgar Tapia, told his wife and children to run, and they got away.

The wife told police she heard a gunshot and returned to find her husband shot in the side. Tapia was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he died hours later after surgery.
The shooter is described only as a black man in his 20s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hoodie and jeans. Police released a sketch of him.
A second possible suspect was described only as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. No composite sketch of the second suspect was released.
Both suspects were seen a red two-door Honda, driven by the second suspect.
