HOUSTON – Police are searching for a gunman after shots fired outside a southeast Houston apartment complex left a teenager dead just a few days before Christmas.
Police said they believe the shooter chased down and killed Moses Phipps, a student at Chavez High School, around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
"We're not entirely certain as to where it happened, it looks like there was some sort of pursuit," said Sgt. Christopher Hassig with the Houston Police Department.
Phipps, 16, was found dead on a sidewalk between units at the Broadway Square apartments.
"I can't believe this happened to him," said Michael Trevino, a friend of Phipps. "I had no idea, I found out over social media."
Phipps lived with his 21-year-old sister. A family friend told Local 2 his parents live in the Virgin Islands.
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
