2 arrests after dozens of east Houston homes hit in burglary spree

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department has arrested two suspects who police said could be connected to more than a dozen home burglaries on Houston's east side.

"I think we have over 27 cases involved in this thing, at least," said HPD burglary investigator Greg Shelton.

The crimes have happened primarily in the Woodland Acres subdivision near the East Freeway and Federal, but other nearby neighborhoods have been targeted too.

The crimes all seem to share certain similarities, including in many cases, the use of a crowbar to get through the door.

"They're taking TVs, electronics, but the thing that concerns us the most are all the weapons involved in these crimes," Shelton said.

In one burglary alone, at least eight guns were stolen.

Police have now connected two men to one or more of the crimes. Shelton identified those suspects as Ivan Zamora, 17, and Anthony McBroom, 18.

McBroom was arrested at home and law enforcement had to make a forced entry because they said he wouldn't come to the door.

Zamora was arrested at Galena Park High School.

Police said both will be charged with burglary.

More arrests are likely, investigators said.
