Vandals on 4-wheelers damage Moody Park baseball field

HOUSTON – The gate is locked now, but this weekend it was left open and that's when the Lindale Little League said three people came in to damage their field at Moody Park.

"We know there were at least three people involved," said Ana Guerrero, with the Lindale Little League.

She said the video shows trespassers on city property. It was shocking to her since it was boldly posted to Facebook.

"The actual diamond is made of clay, it's not just regular soil," she said. "So it is a big deal. We don't even let the kids practice when the fields are wet so to see them doing donuts, it was very disheartening."

She said they don't know the person who published the video, but now they're left to clean up this mess for the safety of Houston kids ages four to 16 who use this field.

"If you step on one you can kind of feel where the ground is raised, but if they're running at full speed and they hit one of these they're going to fall and hurt themselves. They can land wrong, break a hand, you know, sprain ankles, so it's dangerous for the kids to be running on uneven fields and that's why we try so hard to maintain it and keep it usable for the kids," Guerrero said.

And the time and money to fix it will likely be their next big problem.

"We have to get more dirt or more clay to cover up the deeper gauges in the dirt before opening day and we have to come out and even it out," said Guerrero.

Lindale said they're working with the Houston Astros and the Parks and Recreation Department to try and repair the damage.
