Thunderstorms, heavy rain pound Houston, Southeast Texas

HOUSTON – For the second consecutive day, thunderstorms brought heavy rain, lightning and high winds across Southeast Texas.

The storms pounded the Houston area Friday, leading to street flooding, downed trees and power outages.

The Houston area remains under a Flash Flood Watch until 8 a.m. Saturday.

Rainfall totals south of I-10 were mostly between 2 and 5 inches, while around 1-2 inches fell in areas north of the freeway, according to the Harris County Flood Control District.

The Flood District said it is closely monitoring the water levels of Brays, Keegans and Sims bayous.

Thunderstorms will cluster overnight for heavy rain moving area wide through Saturday morning.

With the ground already saturated from Thursday's and Friday's storms, there's a good chance for some minor street flooding into early Saturday and ponding on the roadways beneath thunderstorms.

Most of the rain will wrap up after lunchtime Saturday afternoon with some isolated showers left over through the early evening. Highs Saturday will be in the upper 70s to near 80.

Sunday will be a vast improvement with morning clouds and mostly sunny skies and highs back in the mid-80s so at least we can salvage half of our weekend forecast.
