Reservoir's broken levee threatens Montgomery County homes

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Flood waters are threatening homes near the Lewis Creek Reservoir in Montgomery County.

"I would go, but my husband says we are staying unless there is a mandatory evacuation," said Lenea McMahon, who lives near the Reservoir.

Rain washed away parts of the levee there this week, but on Saturday crews made good progress to repair it and reduce reduce the soil slide. Members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office are blocking off each entrance to the reservoir to prevent residents from getting too close to the water.

"They are saying that if it were to bust in this area, we'll have about six minutes to get out before we're flooded in," McMahon said.

With more rain expected on Sunday and Monday, McMahon and her family are packing up bags in case they have to leave their home in a hurry.

"It's very scary to think you could lose everything before you know it," McMahon said.

Residents with questions can speak with an Entergy representative from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Montgomery County Community Center at 600 Gerald St. in Willis. It will be open Sunday from 8am to 3pm.

People seeking general information can call the United Way Call Center at 713-957-4357.
