Whataburger forced to shorten breakfast hours due to egg shortage

HOUSTON – No more late night runs to satisfy your honey butter chicken biscuit craving, and no more rolling out of bed at 10:30 a.m. to make it to Whataburger just in time to catch the final minutes of breakfast. Well, at least for the time being.

Whataburger announced Sunday that it is trimming its breakfast hours due to a national egg shortage. The virulent avian influenza outbreak that has killed around 44 million birds, including egg laying hens, continues to spread across the Midwest.

The shortage and the increasing costs of eggs has led Whataburger to reduce its breakfast hours from the normal 11 p.m. - 11 a.m. to 5 to 9 a.m. on weekdays and 5 to 11 a.m. on weekends. However, breakfast will only be served while supplies last, meaning hours could end even earlier.

Whataburger issued the following statement on its Facebook page:

"We know this is no fun for anyone and hope this doesn't last long, and we apologize the supply of eggs cannot currently meet demand."
