KATY, Texas – It's something you don't see every day, not even in Texas. A police dashcam mounted to a patrol motorcycle captured the drama when a horse escaped from a nearby yard and wound up on the I-10 Katy Freeway feeder road.
Officers were desperately trying to get the animal out of traffic. In the dashcam, you can hear her galloping down the road with the officer following close behind on his motorcycle. Drivers can be seen pulling over to get out of the way.
"Oh the horse. Yes, she was very scared," David Brown, an animal control officer in Katy, said. "The main part was get it off the road."
Brown was called in to help corral the horse. After almost 15 minutes, she eventually ran into a Walmart parking lot.
Brown grabbed a feed bucket, without any feed in it, but the horse didn't know that. He hit the side of it to get her attention and sure enough, it worked and she walked right over to him.
"Then I put a leash around its neck," Brown said.
The horse was turned over to her owner, who now faces charges.
"I was worried about a major accident but it didn't happen. No one was hurt and the horse was fine," said Brown.
