KATY, Texas – A Katy-area high school has reopened after reports of a strong gas smell led administrators to evacuate the building, Katy ISD said Tuesday in a statement.
Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff packed the football field at Seven Lakes High School Tuesday morning as fire fighters from the Fulshear Fire Department aired out the building.
"It was determined that a gas jet was left on, and the issue has now been resolved," Katy ISD said in a statement.
The district did not specify the location of the gas jet, but said the building was evacuated before 6 Tuesday morning. Officials lifted it shortly after 9, giving students the all clear to head to class.
"Every measure was taken to ensure the safety of our students during this event," the district said in a statement.
