LA MARQUE, Texas – The father of a teenage boy charged in the death of his pregnant mother spoke with KPRC 2.
Nita Moseley's body was found Saturday in her home in La Marque. Sunday afternoon, her son, who was reported missing, was found in Houston, and on Monday, the 14-year-old boy was charged with murder.
The teen's father, who only wanted to be identified as Michael and who doesn't want to show his face, called his son a good kid, kind, intelligent and loved by others.
"I am in shock about the situation. My son has always been a good kid for as long as I've known him," Michael said.
He wanted to share his side of the story. He told KPRC 2 that his son was a boy that loved football and skateboarding.
"Enjoy playing together... video games together," he said. "Our family loved to travel. We did a lot of traveling; to the Grand Canyon, Washington D.C., Disney World, Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels," he said.
But Michael would receive a horrific call last Saturday from the La Marque Police Department. His teenage son was in custody and charged with the murder of his pregnant mother.
"At that point I broke down. Everything had pretty much fallen apart at that point. When I did see him, the first thing he told me was he did not do it," Michael said. "The night he was arrested I got to see him, I hugged him and I told him I loved him and that I would support him through this and to not worry."
As for what may or may not have happened, the father said that the son and mother had a good relationship.
"My son and his mother loved each other very much. She just hasn't been there for him in the last five years and he had been with me," he said.
Michael said Moseley has made some poor life choices and had some things in her life that controlled her and kept her from being a good mother. Moving forward, Michael said he realizes that his son will need his support.
"I told him I would be there for him, when this was all over with to be a better man. He said he would," Michael said. "I do believe that one day we will be together soon. We will be able to live a normal life."
The son remains behind bars. He is scheduled for a psychological evaluation.
The Galveston County District Attorney's Office will decide whether they will try the teen as an adult or a juvenile.
The autopsy of Nita Moseley was released Wednesday, confirming she was pregnant at the time of her death.
