Story of 1-year-old boy with extreme brain malformation touches hearts around the world

TAVARES, Fla. – There has been an outpouring of support for a 1-year-old Florida boy whose story has received international attention.

Jaxon Buell was born with an extreme brain malformation called microhydranencephaly, a neurological disorder where the head circumference is less than normal. It's a condition that can form at birth, or develop within the first few years of life. According to  ChildrenWithMicro, the disorder affects more than 25,000 infants in the U.S. each year.

Jaxon recently celebrated his first birthday. Doctors said he would not live more than a few months and would never speak, see or hear.

"Jaxon has already shown how strong, smart, and special he is, accomplishing feats that doctors doubted he'd ever be able to do, shows improvements each and every day, and just reached a miraculous milestone in celebrating his 1st birthday. His perseverance and strength already shown is why we are calling his inspirational story, ‘Jaxon Strong,'" said his father Brandon on Jaxon's GoFundMe page.

As of Thursday, Jaxon's GoFundMe page has generated over $98,000.
