HOUSTON – Two suspected car thieves were arrested Thursday after a crash near the University of St. Thomas campus.
According to Houston police, two men in a stolen vehicle crashed into another vehicle on Yoakum near Alabama.
"I saw them almost hit a curb and then bash right into the side of a car. I saw them get up and walk away, and I thought that was suspicious. I went around the block and found the police officers," one student told KPRC 2.
The men ditched the wrecked car and ran through the university campus but were apprehended. Two handguns were also recovered.
An alert was sent out to students, notifying them of the incident.
"Everybody got a text and then everybody started freaking out and then we got a phone call that there were armed men. It was really scary," student Grecia Mascorro said.
"As a result of that message going out, one of our students spotted these two near this end of the campus," Chief James Tate, with the University of St. Thomas Police Department, said.
No students were injured.
