FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – A house in Friendswood was severely damaged by a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS categorized the storm as a low-end EF-2 tornado.
Investigators said the roof collapsed Saturday around 5:30 a.m. at the home near FM 2351 at Chester Drive. There was no one in the house at the time and no one was injured.
Downed trees and fences were reported around 30 other homes in the Renwick Park area.
Around 5 a.m. Saturday, the tornado tore through the neighborhoods of Anna Leah, Kings Park and White Hall, snapping oak trees and ripping off roofs.
Katie White was awakened by weather alerts minutes before the tornado went through her neighborhood. Then the wind began roaring.
"My husband and I jumped up out of bed and grabbed the kids and hunkered down in the hallway," White said. "That only lasted for a few minutes and then got pretty silent."
A street over, Elizabeth Hennessy, 87, said she heard a big bang when the wind knocked down a wall and sent a tree crashing into her roof.
The worst damage was to David McCollough's home. No one was inside when it was struck by the tornado.
At least 30 homes were damaged, and power is out to at least 60 homes.
