HOUSTON – J.J. Watt confirmed to the media Sunday morning that he will have surgery Tuesday to repair a groin injury that sidelined him in the Texans’ season-ending loss to Kansas City.
Watt was listed as questionable for six weeks this season, and said Saturday was the breaking point.
“I'll know exactly what it is when we get it looked at further," Watt said. "I know for a fact we've got to fix something, that's for sure. It's something we've been dealing with for probably six or seven weeks now, and our training staff has done a great job of just getting me out there on the field so I could play.”
Watt played in 96 percent of the Texans snaps going into Saturday’s game. Watt went down in the third quarter with a "significant groin injury" and now he's focused on getting better.
“Right now I’m just looking forward to getting my body healthy, taking some time to make sure that fully heals so I can get back to being 100 percent,” Watt said.
More than anything, the Texans defender is disappointed in the loss.
"I'm sorry that it ended the way it did," Watt said. "I feel like fans pour their heart and soul into this thing just like we do, and so I feel like we've got to take accountability for the fact that we didn't accomplish our goal."
