HOUSTON – An accident involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle has left two people dead in northwest Houston.
Witnesses said the truck driver was going about 50 mph when he ran a red light near the Beltway 8 feeder road and Antoine Drive. We're told the big rig collided with a sedan.
The truck driver, Demetrius Bucanan, was tossed from the rig's cab, and then crushed by the loaded crate he was transporting, deputies said. Bucanan died at the scene.
A woman, man and their 5-month old baby were riding in the sedan. Ashley Roberson McGaha, 29, also died at the scene. The man, who was driving the car, and his child were taken to the hospital.
The father's condition hasn't been reported. However, we're told the child wasn't seriously injured because the baby was properly secured during the accident.
We'll provide more information as it becomes available.
