NBC News – Florida police are searching for two people accused of stealing money from a Girl Scout cookie stand at a Deltona Walmart.
Surveillance pictures captured the couple now wanted in the theft.
"Taking from a kid, 12 years old, a Girl Scout, is one of the lower forms," said Andrew Gant of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the man took the cash after walking out of the store with a woman and child. They may be driving a Hyundai Santa Fe with North Carolina tags.
"That's so heartbreaking to hear," said local resident Kara Moore.
"You know, they stand for good things and do things for the community. It's pretty terrible," said resident Joshua Baker.
"It's unfortunate, people are desperate, and to pick on a little Girl Scout? That's just really heartbreaking," Moore said.
The Girl Scout's mother told WESH 2 News the little girl is still shaken up and trying to move past what happened.
Volusia County wants the public to be on the lookout for a man wanted in connection with a crime that some people couldn't even imagine.
"I can't say that I could picture someone stooping that low," Baker said.
"I think we can all agree it's somebody that needs to be held accountable for taking money from a little girl selling Girl Scout cookies," Gant said.
