Surveillance video released of suspect wanted in murder of Bellaire-area woman

BELLAIRE, Texas – Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspect they believe is responsible for the murder of Shelbey Thornburgh.

Thornburgh was killed on Nov. 4, 2015 inside her apartment in the 7500 block of Bellaire Blvd.

She died from an injury caused by an unknown object. It is believed she met with an unknown man prior to her death.

Surveillance video was released of the suspect arriving and leaving the lobby of Thornburgh's apartment during the time investigators said she was killed.

Thornburgh's sister, Krystina Scoot, desperately wants to find out who commited the murder.

"I don't understand why this happened. It doesn't matter what a person does with her life, nobody should take a life from somebody." said Scott. "She was only 20 and didn't deserve for her life to be taken from her by a cut to the throat."

Investigators said Shelby and the man exchanged text messages not long before she was found dead. Police were unable to track his phone because it was not registered to his name. They hope someone will recognize the man.

"This suspect visited our victim in her apartment. She did let him in. And he proceeded to assault her and cut her neck.  She died on the scene from her injuries," said Officer Crowder.

The suspect was seen wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt, shorts, tennis shoes and sunglasses.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to the charging and/or arrest of a suspect in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 713-222-TIPS.
