EL PASO, Texas – A 16-year-old is dead and another injured after a carnival ride accident at an El Paso church.
Police said the accident happened Friday night at a Dia De Los Ninos carnival at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on a ride called the Sizzler.
Police said three girls were on the ride when two were ejected. One of the girls was taken to Del Sol Medical Center where she later died, police say. The other teen was taken to University Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The aunt of the girl who was not ejected told NewsChannel 9 that the girls told the ride operator that the seat belt wouldn't buckle, but the operator told the girls that they were OK. The aunt said her niece was holding onto the seat belt.
