HIALEAH, Fla. – No arrests have been made after an 11-month-old girl died Monday after being left in her parents' van outside a Hialeah home, authorities said.

The child was identified by the medical examiner’s office Tuesday as Micayle Goolsby.

Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said police are working closely with the Miami-Dade state attorney's office in the investigation.

Sky 10 was above the home on West 86th Terrace as several police cars were parked outside.

It's unclear how long Micayle was inside the van, but Zogby said she was possibly in there for several hours with the engine turned off.

She was taken to Palmetto General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Local 10 News spoke to Micayle's great-grandmother, Delfina Alvarez, who said she's surprised by the devastating news.

She said she hasn't spoken to her granddaughter or the woman's husband in three years because of a family feud.

Still, she says that she misses her two other great-grandchildren whom she hasn't seen in recent years. She said she never got the chance to meet Micayle.

"With all my heart I miss the other kids," Alvarez said.

Hialeah police said the investigation is ongoing and it's unclear whether anyone will be charged.

The group KidsandCars.org advises that people who care for children take steps such as checking the back seat to help ensure a child isn't left in the vehicle.
