GALVESTON – Bacteria advisories have been issued for a dozen of our beaches.
The Galveston County Health District and the Texas General Land Office monitor coastal waters for elevated levels of bacteria. Samples are taken weekly from 52 sites in Galveston, Bolivar Peninsula and the Texas City dike. Those samples are tested for enterococcus bacteria.

This week, 12 sites are under advisory.
The areas of concern in Galveston are seawall sites:
Fort Crockett Seawall Park (45th Street)
Beach Plaza Shopping Center
39th Street
35th Street
Between 31st and 32nd Street
Pleasure Pier/27th Street
East Pleasure Pier
18th/19th Streets
14th/15th Streets
Two Bolivar Peninsula sites have elevated bacteria advisories:
Retilon Road
Helen Boulevard
There is also an advisory for the Texas City dike.
The Galveston County Health Department said beaches are not closed when an advisory is issued. Advisories simply inform the public of the elevated bacteria level so people can make an informed choice about swimming in the affected waters.
