Firefighter injured, 17 apartments destroyed in massive fire

Cause of fire under investigation, officials say

HOUSTON – A massive two-alarm blaze left a firefighter injured and destroyed 17 units at a west Houston apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at 4:39 a.m. at Briarwood Apartments near the intersection of Winrock Boulevard and Westheimer Road.

No residents were injured, but a firefighter suffered a cut to his head, officials said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The fire was deemed under control just after 6 a.m.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
