HOUSTON – The Texas Lottery announced Wednesday that its sales have topped $5 billion for the 2016 fiscal year.
This passes last year’s benchmark by more than $530 million. The lottery also set a record for scratch ticket sales in a single year at $3.72 billion.

This year, marks 13 consecutive years in which the Texas Lottery has generated more than $1 billion in revenue.
Since its inception, revenue from the lottery has been allocated to various services in the state, including public education, at $19 billion, and veterans at $66 million.
The fiscal year ended for the Texas Lottery on Aug. 31. The Texas Lottery will officially announce their revenue milestones Thursday in Austin.
