Officer injured in southwest Houston crash with blood donation vehicle

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was injured in a crash Monday morning in southwest Houston.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. at the intersection of Holmes Road and FM Road 521.

Video from Sky2 over the scene showed a Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center vehicle and a police SUV were involved in the crash. It appeared that the police vehicle had sustained severe damage, including damage from a fire.

According to a spokeswoman for Houston police, the officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

 

The GCRBC said the vehicle was on the way to a blood drive location when it was involved in the accident. There were no blood products on board at the time. Four staff members were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two have been released.

The cause of the crash was not immediately released.
