After towing vehicle, man says driver took car for joyride

PEARLAND, Texas – Brian Montgomery paid $110,000 for his Nissan GTR, it’s his baby.

“It’s an exotic sports car,” he told KPRC. “It can go 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds. It’s an extremely fun car to drive, put it that way.”

On Sunday, the car started acting up, so Brian had it towed to a Nissan dealership. Or so he thought.

“I called the dealership on Monday around noon and asked if they had a chance to look at it, and they said, ‘Your car is not here,’” Montgomery said.

Montgomery said he called the tow truck company and they explained their driver brought the car to their lot because the Nissan dealership wasn’t open on Sunday, they were in the process of transferring the car to the dealership.

Brian said he didn’t think much of it and believed their story.

Brian’s car is equipped with a sophisticated system that records video, audio, speeds and GPS every time the car is turned on.

The following day, after he picked it up from the dealership, he decided to take a look at the video. He was shocked at what he saw.

"They broke the law,” Brian said. “They took it without my permission, they drove it recklessly. Driving 75 miles per hour through a crowded neighborhood with kids playing on the sidewalk.”

There are several minutes of video that show someone driving the car and at one point he admits it belongs to a customer and that he almost lost control while driving it.

“B****, this car is fast as f***,” someone is heard saying. “Oh my God, dude.”

The Pearland Police Department is now involved, and a spokesperson told Channel 2 they are investigating and will present the case to the DA’s office for possible charges.

Right now, a detective is working to identify the tow truck driver seen on the video.

Police said he works for Royal Towing, LLC in Houston.

KPRC called that business, but the dispatcher told us he knew nothing about the allegations.

Later, a worker said all questions are being directed to their lawyer, who isn’t in the office until tomorrow afternoon.
