2 Friendswood High School students charged with having gun on campus

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Two juvenile Friendswood High School students are facing charges after police said they brought a gun on campus and posted disturbing images of school shootings on social media accounts.

A witness reported to Friendswood police on Nov. 8 that a 14-year-old student showed a handgun hidden inside a binder to another student. No gun was found during a search of the school.

Later that day, the uncle of the 14-year-old boy reported a firearm had been stolen from his home and was last seen in the middle of October.

Friendswood police investigators discovered photos of the gun on Instagram and traced the stolen weapon back to a residence in the Polly Ranch subdivision, where the weapon was recovered early the next day.

Police said they found "disturbing images and statement that manifest Columbine ideations and a fixation on school shootings" on the Twitter and Instagram accounts of the two teens.

One teen was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, and the second teen was taken into custody around 12:15 p.m. Both are charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in a weapon-free zone.

They are being held in the Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center in Texas City.
