HISD celebrates Delmar Fieldhouse grand opening

HOUSTON – Houston Independent School District hosted a grand opening celebration in honor of the completion of the new Delmar Fieldhouse.

Delmar Fieldhouse was constructed as part of the 2012 voter-approved bond program.

That bond provided nearly 2 billion to make improvements across the district. Thirty-five million dollars of that went into building the new facility.

The new Delmar Facility is nearly 140,000 square feet in size. It houses six football locker rooms, a training room, two concession stands, storage for Dyer Stadium and the district athletic staff.

The arena seats 5,000 people, has a 7,700-square-foot court made of maple, which features the Houston skyline and a star representing the HISD logo.

The entire court can be removed and expanded allowing it to meet NCAA court requirements and lower level seats can be retracted if needed.

The first games will be played Friday at 4 p.m. in the Delmar Fieldhouse Inaugural Games, including eight HISD basketball teams.

Playing in the games are Houston vs. Westside, Yates vs. Washington, Lamar vs. Bellaire and Heights vs. Chavez.
