Woman, dog attacked by 2 pit bulls

A 5-year-old miniature Schnauzer is left bloody and bandaged after an attack by two pit bulls.

But the pup wasn't the only victim.

A 73-year-old woman is also in bad shape after the same dogs ambushed her near her home.

"Here I am with these two pit bulls trying to attack my dog, and taking my fists trying to hit them in the head like that's really going to do something," the owner of the dog said.

The owner and her dog were taking a walk when the pit bulls came for her pup. She had to rush her dog to the veterinary where the dog had to have her tail amputated the owner said.

The 73-year-old woman was also outside walking her dog at the same time as two pit bulls were attacking the miniature Schnauzer.

The pit bulls stopped attacking the Schnauzer and they focused their attention on the 73-year-old woman.

"The chances of that healing are I mean, she has a real good chance of losing her leg," the 73-year-old woman's friend said.

The woman's friend says this never should've happened to either of the ladies and their dogs.

"But they come through the fence all the time and that gate out front doesn't work so they come through the gate of the complex," the friend said.

She says the property needs to be more secure and the dogs need to be gone.

Maricela Elguezabal said her daughter owns the pit bulls. They were there to keep intruders out.

"They were just protecting the house," Elguezabal said.

She never thought they'd do this, and is reaching out to the victims to help.

"I feel real real bad about that because they are people, they are hurt," Elguezabal said.

BARC currently has the dogs in possession. The owners can sign over the rights or BARC will request a dangerous dog hearing where a judge will decide the fate of the animals.

The property manager of the apartment community says he is addressing residents' concerns. He says the gate is operational, but it keeps getting broken. He says it is something that will be addressed.

If you would like to help the two victims, there is a GoFundMe account set up for each:
