Police sergeant recovering in hospital after accident in west Houston, officials say

HOUSTON – A police sergeant was taken to the hospital after a van plowed into the side of his vehicle, police said.

According to officials, the sergeant was managing traffic after a car hit a wooden pole at 1 a.m. Sunday near Synott Road and Bellaire Boulevard.

As the sergeant was inside his vehicle, a man driving a van plowed into the side of the sergeant's vehicle. 

The sergeant was taken to hospital in critical, but stable condition, police said. 

The driver of the van was not hurt in the accident. 

Police said the driver of the van was intoxicated and he is now in custody waiting to be charged.
