Thousands attend Mardi Gras parade in Galveston

GALVESTON – It's the event of extravagance. Mardi Gras 2017 is taking over the streets of Galveston Island.

"Now that the sun is going down, people are going crazy. It's getting more fun as the night goes on," Christian Alicea said.

First, there's the parade of parades. Each float was more spectacular than the last.

"Trying to have a good time, visit some family. Just enjoying the ambiance here," Alicea said.

Mardi Gras is known best for its beads as the balcony elite tossed the highly coveted strands to the strand below.

"I got some big ones. I got some small ones, I got all different colors. I love it," Ashly Gerber said.

And you can't forget the over-the-top fashion from the masks to lash.

"The feathers, the boas, it's all Mardi Gras. It's festive," Virginia with Masquerade Lash said.

But you can't have Mardi Gras without the flavor of Louisiana. James Pickney brought his crew across the border to offer a taste of New Orleans.

"Its boudain balls, a lot of people haven't heard about it," Pickney said.

From the live music to the live action, party-goers say Mardi Gras in Galveston is one to remember.
